“Signatures are really, really hard! Don’t invent the wheel yourself—use Documenso,” says Eddie Lu, Founder of RingRadar
About Ring Radar
RingRadar is modernizing equestrian sports from the ground up. Built as the all-in-one platform for show organizers, competitors, and judges, it handles everything from registrations and rider scheduling to results tracking and liability management. Equestrian events can be chaotic—fast-moving, high-risk, and often spread across regions with little centralized infrastructure. Ring Radar’s goal is to simplify all that.
One essential piece of the puzzle? Legally binding signatures.
Liability waivers, entry forms, consent agreements—horse shows are filled with documents that need to hold up under legal scrutiny. While most platforms in the space rely on paper or generic PDFs, Ring Radar knew from the beginning that they needed a fully digital, trackable, and court-valid signing solution built into their product.
The Challenge
“Accidents will happen… we don’t want to be caught with our pants down.”
From day one, the team behind Ring Radar understood the legal implications of managing live events involving animals and riders. In rare cases, these documents may end up in front of a judge—and when that happens, they need to be bulletproof.
They also needed to ensure signing didn’t disrupt the experience. Organizers and riders don’t want to fumble with emails, PDF attachments, or unfamiliar third-party portals. Everything had to feel native, smooth, and reliable.
What They Needed
“We wanted legally binding signatures since day one.”
It wasn’t about convenience—it was about legal integrity. Ring Radar’s use case wasn’t just internal HR or light admin. They were handling waivers with serious legal weight, and needed signatures that met compliance standards.
At the same time, the product experience mattered just as much. Riders are usually on the go, using mobile or tablet devices at the venue. That meant zero tolerance for complicated sign-up flows or confusing UI.
What They Tried
Ring Radar explored the usual suspects:
DocuSign: Reliable, but bloated—and impossible to blend into their product experience.
PandaDoc: More flexible, but still too “out of the box.”
DocuSeal: Open-source and promising, but not polished enough for production use.
None of them struck the right balance between legal robustness, developer flexibility, and user experience.
Why Documenso Worked
“I really like the white-label aspect.”
With Documenso, Ring Radar found the sweet spot: legally binding, developer-friendly, and fully white-labeled. Riders didn’t see “DocuSign” or “powered by” badges—just the same clean interface they were already using.
Signing became just another step in the journey—fluid, embedded, and invisible.
“People sign DocuSign when they’re buying a house or signing a job offer. That’s not what we want.”
Instead of interrupting the experience, Documenso fit neatly inside it.
The Integration
Ring Radar now uses Documenso via API and embedded signing. Waivers are automatically generated and tied to each rider’s profile. When participants sign, it’s done within the same platform they use to check start times and event results.
On the backend, Documenso provides webhook support and audit tracking—giving the Ring Radar team full visibility into who signed what and when. There’s no guesswork, no manual tracking, no patchwork of tools.
A Surprise Bonus
“We got tracking of when someone opened a doc for free.”
One unexpected win was real-time document tracking. Without having to configure or pay extra for it, the team could see exactly when a document had been opened—providing an added layer of accountability and assurance.
The Outcome
By embedding Documenso, Ring Radar now offers a legally compliant signing process without ever taking users out of their flow. It’s faster, more trustworthy, and fits perfectly into the high-stakes, fast-moving world of equestrian sports.
And it saves their team hours of paperwork wrangling and legal uncertainty each month.
Advice to Others
“Signatures are really, really hard. Don’t invent the wheel—use Documenso.”
If you’re building a product where documents matter—and where legal risk is more than theoretical—Ring Radar’s experience makes it clear: you don’t need to reinvent this part of your stack. You just need a signing solution that actually fits.
