Enterprise is the Next Frontier for Documenso
We have been heads down for a while. Today I want to shed some light on what’s next for Documenso: Going Enterprise. Of course, we are already serving enterprise-level customers. What we are focusing on right now is making a deliberate push towards everything that helps operate these cases at any scale. This is why we are committed to fulfilling the reliability, control, and infrastructure needs of organizations of any scale. We are calling this:
Enterprise-Grade Infrastructure for Everyone
While this is not a completely new concept in COSS (Commercial Open Source), I want to take a moment to highlight what this means for Documenso specifically. A while back, we shared our mission to bring Documenso into every tech stack. This is still very much our ambition, and we are focusing on the most core part of it: Making sure teams can actually use it in production. For bigger organizations, this means handling real-world constraints beyond our signing capabilities that come with that territory.
Just In: Organizations

"Organizations help scaling across multiple teams."
Over the past few months, we have rolled out the biggest feature in recent history: Organizations – a structured approach for companies to manage teams, access, and settings at scale. Organizations support Custom Email Sender Domains for making internal and external delivery more secure and consistent. We reworked all relevant areas to fit this new approach, and now we are building a new enterprise feature layer on top of this. This includes:
SSO (Single Sign-On) and Active Directory Support, for seamless company-wide access without headaches
Team Insights, so admins can understand usage across the org
Custom fields, for injecting internal data into documents
Envelopes, to group and send multiple documents together
SOC 2, HIPAA, and ISO 27001 Compliance, to allow deploying in more strictly regulated environments. SOC 2 is currently wrapping up, with the other two planned right after. More here.
We call this package enterprise-grade infrastructure for everyone because while these features are driven by enterprise needs, they raise the bar for the entire platform.
Clear Path for Self-Hosting
Self-hosting has always been a part of Documenso, and it’s great to discover Documenso instances in all corners of the earth. We know that data locality and infrastructure are huge issues for organizations today, and we want to do our part to empower organizations to be in control of their infrastructure and data. Yet, so far it has been an informal path, suited to early adopters rather than professional organizations. That’s changing.
We are introducing a proper Enterprise Edition Self-Hosted License, which includes access to the new advanced features, active product support, and certificate white-glove service. The Community Edition will remain free and open, including for commercial use. Enterprise-only restrictions will be limited to features like SSO and advanced compliance requirements.
We will share more on this soon.
The Road Ahead
We have historically prioritized customer needs on the roadmap, as we feel this is the healthiest benchmark for our roadmap. We are now formalizing this by adding roadmap priority to Documenso Enterprise Licenses (Hosted and Self-Hosted). Delivering around these needs fast allows us to scale operations together with our customers.
Of course, this will shift a major share of our revenue towards the side of enterprise adoption. While it can be challenging to balance the needs of different market segments, we consider this a great opportunity: Delivering great enterprise value at scale allows our customers to use Documenso to its full potential, and allows us to invest back into the open-source project and community. We will have a dedicated blog post on how we are planning to work with our community going forward, so keep an eye out for that.
Playing this right will allow for a sustainable balance of commercial and open source as we develop Documenso towards its ultimate goal: Becoming the world’s open signing standard. It also allows us to stay independent and improve all plans over time as our adoption grows.
What’s Next?
You can expect a deep-dive on the new Organizations feature soon. This is not just relevant for bigger organizations, but for anyone using more than one team to separate departments.
You can also expect the enterprise features mentioned above to ship in the near future. As always, you can get the most up-to-date glimpse on our live roadmap. Aside from the enterprise features, we are planning to ship the next major updates to the V2 API and Embedding.
If you are interested in the new enterprise licenses (hosted or self-hosted), you can reach out here or just book a call.
We will keep you posted, as we are excited to kick off this next chapter.
